The project

From 7 to 9 July 2026 Festival Architettura Torino asked the city a question: Who will live in empty homes? The title draws on a collection of writings by Ettore Sottsass and reads emptiness not as abandonment, but as a chance for transformation, reuse and new ways of living.

The festival, promoted by Fondazione per l’architettura / Torino with the Ordine degli Architetti PPC della Provincia di Torino, was the first public event to reopen the former Fish Market of Porta Palazzo, a 19th-century building set to become a cultural hub, as part of Turin’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2033.

Three days to tell

We covered talks, awards, exhibitions and installations, from the opening by the Fondazione’s president Alessandra Siviero: the opening talk by Lorenzo Bellicini (CRESME), the keynote by Umberto Napolitano (LAN), the session on artificial intelligence and housing with Barbara Caputo, Agostino Nickl and Andrea D’Antrassi, the awards of the Future Homes Europe competition for designers under 35 and Raffaele Salvoldi’s work La fragilità della bellezza genera responsabilità, built and demolished during the festival.

The photographs, signed together with Daniele Ratti, show the audience, the speakers and a building coming back to life.
